WHAT: Plaque unveiling and official opening of Somerset All-Abilities Playground

WHO: The playground will be formally opened by Senator Anne Urquhart – Senator for Tasmania; accompanied by Waratah-Wynyard Mayor, Dr Mary Duniam and the Hon. Roger Jaensch Minister MP – Minister for Parks; Education, Children and Youth; Environment and Climate Change and Aboriginal Affairs.

WHEN: 11am, Saturday 22 July 2023

BACKGROUND: Somerset ANZAC All-Abilities Playground is a partnership between Waratah-Wynyard Council and local charitable organisation The Fairy Godmothers. The vision has been to create a destination playground that is fun, inclusive, and accessible for everyone.  The playground offers a range of activities and sensory play experiences in a custom-designed setting for people of all ages and abilities. It was opened to the public on the Easter long weekend 2023.

The project was funded through a $1.365 million grant from the Federal Government’s Community Development Grants Program, a $550,000 grant from the Tasmanian Government Department of Premier and Cabinet Community Grants Program and a $635,000 Council contribution.
