Waratah-Wynyard Council is seeking to commission an artist to create a unique artwork for use on the cover of their Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan. Through this commission, alongside council’s reconciliation journey, we seek to celebrate Aboriginal culture with the broader community and give a strong visual identity to the beginning of council’s reconciliation journey.
Who can apply
The artist must be an Aboriginal artist based in lutruwita Tasmania. A connection to the local area is preferable but not required.
Emerging artists and artist collaborations are welcome to apply.
Important dates:
- Applications are now open.
- The closing date for applications is Friday May 17, 2024.
- The successful artist(s) will be notified on Friday May 31, 2024 and will be expected to complete the artwork by Wednesday July 31, 2024.
Budget:
The final selected artist will receive a fee of $2,500 to develop an initial artwork concept for the final commission. This will include the cost of materials, conceptual development and design and the rights to reproduce the image for the purpose of digital or hard copy images without payment of additional royalties. If the artist is bound by an exclusive contract to a commercial gallery, it is their responsibility to notify the gallery and negotiate commission fees which may require payment.
How to submit application:
Artists are invited to submit an initial expression of interest for the artwork commission including examples of past artwork. Online applications consist of:
- applicant’s details
- a description and sketch of the artists concept proposal (max 500 words)
- a maximum 250-word description of the artists professional skills and experience
- support material
- a biography for all artists involved
