Important changes for stallholders
For the first time, stallholders previously located in Gutteridge Gardens, excluding the Garden Bar licensed drinking area, will be relocated to Wynyard’s main street in the CBD. Stalls will be located on Goldie Street, between Jackson Street and Hogg Street.
This transition to street-based trading has been introduced in response to recurring challenges within the garden precinct, including weather impacts, uneven surfaces and bump-in/bump-out logistics. The move to Goldie Street will provide stallholders with a more reliable trading environment while also supporting opportunities for local businesses.
Due to logistical and safety considerations, all stallholders in this area will be required to hire a designated bay within a professionally installed and adequately weighted 6-metre-deep clearspan Hoecker marquee located in the centre of the street.
Stalls will be configured back-to-back, with each stallholder allocated either a 3m x 3m or 6m x 3m bay facing outwards. Alternative sizes or locations will only be considered where prior approval has been sought and granted at Council’s discretion.
Stallholders located on the street will be required to pay a marquee hire fee. This fee has increased from previous marquee hire costs due to the type of marquee required, as well as the additional weighting, transport and installation logistics associated with street-based trading.
The marquee hire fee remains heavily subsidised by Council to support stallholder participation. However, 6m x 3m marquee hire fees have increased from previous years due to the larger structure and associated infrastructure requirements.
Due to space constraints within the street trading footprint, 3m x 3m sites are preferred, as they allow a greater number of stallholders to participate. Stallholders requesting a 6m x 3m bay should note that larger bays are limited and may not be able to be accommodated.
Where a stallholder is unable to trade from a 3m x 3m bay, Council may need to decline the application if a suitable 6m x 3m bay is not available.
The marquee will be installed without walls to support safe access, airflow and event operations.
We understand this requirement may not suit all stallholders. Please contact Council if you have any questions or would like to discuss alternative options before submitting your application.
Alternatively, you may wish to apply for the Wynyard Foreshore Market, which will also take place on Tulip Festival Day. Applications for the Foreshore Market are expected to open at the beginning of September.
These changes do not affect any other event areas, with the exception of the Play Patch free family entertainment zone, which will be relocated to the Wynyard Yacht Club to encourage visitation to this area.
Trading times and available stallholder areas
Applicants may indicate their preferred event area as part of their application. Council will assess each application and determine the final trading location based on site suitability, available space, infrastructure requirements, safety considerations, product mix and overall event suitability.
Craft, community and corporate stalls must be located within the Main Street Market. These stalls may only be allocated to another event area at Council’s discretion.
Council may recommend or require an alternative event area where an application is better suited to another location, or where operational, safety or site constraints apply.
