The Wynyard Sports Centre (WSC) is a Council owned and maintained facility situated on Council land at 14A Johnson Place, Wynyard. The facility is available for casual use and organised sports.
A recent Waratah-Wynyard Council recreation planning project identified issues at the Wynyard Sports Centre that relate to inadequate provision changerooms for both genders. The stadium’s existing changerooms and amenities cannot service multiple teams of mixed gender during any given session and during peak use the sharing of changerooms by males and females is necessary and common.
This project seeks to upgrade the Wynyard Sports Centre to provide female-friendly changerooms and amenities for a range of sports.
Two additional, fit-for-purpose and compliant changerooms will be added to the facility. Showers and toilets associated with these changerooms will also be included. Additionally, Council will look for opportunities to provide storage facilities, upgrade the DDA toilet to be in line with current standards and replace the fire-exit doors.
Council will aim to minimise disruption to users as much as possible during construction and will continue to work with the Wynyard Basketball Association on these timelines.
Current changerooms and amenities at the Wynyard Sports Centre (WSC) do not cater adequately for a range of sports and participation by both genders. The existing facilities cannot service multiple teams of mixed genders during any given session and during peak use the sharing of changerooms by males and females is necessary and common.
