FrederickStreet Reserve is Wynyard’s largest community green space. The Frederick Street Reserve Master Plan was first adopted in 2017 as one of the priority actions identified in Council’s Open Space, Sport&Recreation (OSSR) Plan.

In 2023 Council convened the Frederick Street Working Group, bringing together local clubs, community members and Council officers, to review the 2017 vision and translate it into a more detailed layout that responds to current needs of the community.

The Working Group’s efforts are captured in the 2025 Map Update, which finetunes field positions, circulation routes, parking and ecological buffers while preserving the core objectives set in 2017. This project page presents the updated map layout for the reserve.

Like any blueprint, the Master Plan guides future decisions and funding bids, individual projects will be delivered in stages as resources become available.

Key Issues and Opportunities

  1. Protection of the forested area
  2. Development of the Reserve as an event space and social/family recreation space
  3. Constraints on height and lights related to the airport
  4. New and additional infrastructure for club use and future events

All buildings, light poles and new trees must remain below the 15m height limit and avoid light spill to ensure pilot safety.

Yes - DDA compliant toilets are to be constructed at the arena.

Subject to funding, Stage1 (field drainage and pavilion refurbishment) is targeted for the 2026 construction season.
