Boat Harbour Beach Update: Works to Commence on Port Road
The Boat Harbour Beach Master Plan is entering its final stages, with construction set to begin on the new pedestrian footpath along Port Road from Monday 20 July.
The works will complete the section of footpath on top of the recently constructed retaining wall and include:
- Construction of a new concrete footpath
- Installation of a safety fence along the retaining wall
- Landscaping and reinstatement works adjacent to the pathway
Traffic Changes
To safely complete these works, Port Road will initially operate under a partial road closure with traffic management in place.
During periods when a full road closure is required, traffic will be detoured via Cummings Street. Advance notice will be provided before any full road closures occur.
The contractor has also been working closely with local stakeholders, including the Boat Harbour Beach Surf Life Saving Club, Seekers Café and local school bus operators, to minimise disruption throughout the construction period.
The works are expected to take approximately eight weeks, weather permitting.
Project Update
These works mark one of the final stages of the Boat Harbour Beach Master Plan, with significant progress already achieved across the precinct.
Recent milestones include:
- The new car park has been fully sealed and completed.
- The new community and surf club facility is nearing completion, with an anticipated move into the building in early August.
- Landscaping works are now underway and will continue throughout August as the precinct takes its final shape.
Once complete, the project will deliver improved pedestrian access, enhanced safety, upgraded community facilities and more accessible public spaces, creating a welcoming destination for residents and visitors for years to come.
Waratah-Wynyard Council thanks local residents, businesses, visitors and the Boat Harbour Beach Surf Life Saving Club for their continued patience and understanding while these final works are completed.
