What is it?

The adopted Waratah-Wynyard Arts and Culture Strategy 2026–2031 reflects the ideas, aspirations and feedback of the community. Developed through consultation with residents, artists, cultural and heritage organisations, community groups and the Public Art Advisory Group (PAAG), the strategy outlines a shared vision for arts, culture and heritage across the municipality.

Why are we doing this?

The Arts and Culture Strategy was developed in response to strong community interest in celebrating and strengthening the arts, culture and heritage of Waratah-Wynyard. Through consultation with residents, artists, community organisations, heritage groups and the Public Art Advisory Group (PAAG), the community identified the importance of preserving local stories, supporting creativity, creating welcoming public spaces and providing more opportunities for participation.


Arts and culture contribute to community wellbeing, identity, inclusion and economic vitality, helping make Waratah-Wynyard more connected, resilient and liveable. This Strategy establishes a shared direction for the next five years and outlines how Council can support cultural development through partnerships, community participation, storytelling and investment in creative opportunities.

Key Features

Vibrant Public Spaces Through Art
More public art, creative installations and cultural projects will be integrated into parks, streetscapes and community spaces, helping create places that reflect local identity and pride. Local artists will be supported through commissions, exhibitions and grants.
Celebrating Local Stories, Heritage and Culture
The strategy will strengthen the sharing of local history, heritage and Aboriginal stories through interpretation, storytelling and cultural projects, helping residents connect with the people, places and stories that shape Waratah-Wynyard.
More Events and Creative Experiences
Residents will have greater opportunities to participate in arts, cultural and community events through a refreshed events program, support for community-led activities, and improved promotion of what's happening across the municipality.
Arts and Culture for Everyone
The strategy aims to reduce barriers to participation by improving accessibility, creating inclusive programs and ensuring people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds can engage with arts and cultural activities.
Stronger Community Connections
By supporting community-led projects, partnerships and creative networks, the strategy will help build a stronger sense of belonging, encourage collaboration and create more opportunities for people to connect through arts, culture and shared experiences.
Creative Places and Digital Storytelling
Arts, culture and technology will be used to enhance public spaces, celebrate local character and make stories more accessible through placemaking projects, QR codes, multimedia experiences and digital archives.

Get Involved

There are many ways to get involved in the various arts and culture initiatives across our municipality.

Local exhibition spaces are always seeking new artists, members and volunteers, including Artscape Wynyard and the Wonders of Wynyard.
