Wynyard CBD Car Park & Civic Space Development

On 20 April 2015 Council agreed in principle to a proposal to purchase land in Jackson and Goldie Streets and to construct a public car park north of Goldie Street, Wynyard between Jackson and Hogg Streets. The car park was estimated to provide 106 parking spaces and would have two-way vehicular access to Jackson Street and one-way vehicular egress to Hogg Street through land acquired from the Wynyard RSL Club.

Prior to commencing design work, the architects consulted the owners and occupiers of all business premises abutting the development site to explain their brief and gain feedback, particularly in relation to  concerns about any potential impacts arising from the project.

Again, following the preliminary design, the same business interests were consulted and their feedback gained as a precursor to public release of the design proposal for further input from the broader community.

The Council will be required to consider all feedback it receives before determining the final form of the proposed development.

On 12 December Council approved and agreed that the project concept plan has reached the point where community can fully assess the detailed proposal and provide critical feedback for consideration before the Council looks to move to the physical project delivery phase.

The design and sketches be displayed on a picture board installed at the Goldie Street frontage prior to the Christmas/New Year break, to be followed up by community engagement sessions in the new year.
