Waratah-Wynyard Council is preparing to begin renewal works on the Bridge Street bridge at Sisters Beach, which crosses Sisters Creek. The project will involve replacing the bridge superstructure to improve safety, reliability and long-term access for residents and visitors.
Timeline
Works are currently scheduled to commence on-site from 21 April 2026.
Construction is expected to take around two to three weeks, weather conditions permitting.
Access Will Be Maintained at All Times
Vehicle access will be maintained at all times during construction. Because there is no other vehicle access to the western side of Sisters Creek, the works have been planned so traffic can continue using the bridge under staged construction arrangements.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane under traffic control while works are underway. Motorists are asked to please allow extra time, especially at peak times when traffic control measures are in place.
What the Works Involve

The project is expected to include staged removal of the existing bridge deck, installation of the new bridge structure, reinstatement of barriers, construction of the pedestrian footpath, and asphalt surfacing on the bridge and approaches. The new bridge is being designed for a 100-year design life.
Pedestrian Access
Pedestrians are advised that there will be no dedicated pedestrian crossing through the bridge work site during construction. Where possible, pedestrians should use the creek mouth pedestrian bridge instead.
