Meet Billie Henrick!

🌟 Meet Billie Henrick! 🌟

Billie is a local mum, student, and soon-to-be fully registered nurse. Mayor Mary Duniam and Council had the privilege of meeting Billie, the recipient of Council’s Bill French Memorial Bursary — a $5,000 scholarship supporting Waratah-Wynyard students attending UTAS — and congratulating her on all her achievements.

Billie has always been passionate about nursing and helping people. When her children were younger, studying a nursing degree meant travelling to Launceston. Now, with the degree available at the Cradle Coast Campus and her kids older, she jumped at the chance to follow her dream.

She’ll finish her studies in December and become a registered nurse in January 2026. Billie also had the amazing opportunity to travel to India for four weeks through a UTAS & Beyond Borders Learning Programs offshore placement program, delivering health care to remote villages, schools, and experiencing the Indian healthcare system during hospital rotations.

Billie shared that the $5,000 bursary has been a huge help, especially with the rising cost of living. We’re so proud to see this scholarship go to such a hardworking and compassionate local. Billie’s journey is exactly why this program exists! 💛

Well done, Billie! 👏👏
