Waratah-Wynyard Council is proud to acknowledge the support of the Tasmanian Government through the Department of Premier and Cabinet, which has provided vital funding to enhance our region’s emergency preparedness and response capabilities.
As part of a targeted initiative to strengthen community resilience across the North West, Waratah-Wynyard was one of six Councils selected to receive Evacuation Centre Resource Funding. Through this program, Council received $13,783.00 (excluding GST) to invest in resources and equipment specifically designed to support the operation of evacuation and recovery centres.
These centres are critical in times of crisis, providing safe, accessible, and well-equipped spaces for residents displaced or affected by emergencies such as bushfires, floods, or severe weather events. The funding has enabled Council to purchase a range of practical items—such as bedding, signage, hygiene supplies, and communication tools—that ensure these centres are ready to serve the community when needed.
This investment not only improves the immediate functionality of evacuation centres but also contributes to the long-term resilience of the Waratah-Wynyard region. By enhancing our capacity to respond quickly and effectively in emergencies, we are better positioned to protect the wellbeing of our residents and support recovery efforts.
Council extends its sincere thanks to the Tasmanian Government and the Department of Premier and Cabinet for their continued commitment to community safety and emergency management.
