Rain or shine, Council's depot crews have been hard at work maintaining parks, gardens and public spaces across the municipality.
From colourful spring displays to refreshed public spaces, Council’s Parks and Reserves team has been busy working behind the scenes to keep the Waratah-Wynyard municipality looking its best.
Rain, wind or shine, the team has been out across the municipality delivering a wide range of maintenance and improvement works that help keep our parks, gardens and public spaces safe, welcoming and enjoyable for residents and visitors alike.
One of the biggest achievements this winter has been the completion of this year’s tulip planting program. Around 8,000 tulip bulbs have now been planted throughout Wynyard and Somerset, ready to burst into colour from September. The annual displays along Goldie Street, Wynyard, and Wragg Street, Somerset, play an important role in beautifying our towns while welcoming the thousands of visitors who travel to the region each spring to experience the Wynyard Tulip Festival and the spectacular Table Cape Tulip Farm.
The team’s work extends well beyond tulip planting. Recent projects have included planting seasonal gardens, mulching, pruning, laying turf, weeding public spaces, responding to fallen trees and carrying out pressure cleaning across a number of Council-owned facilities.
Visitors to Gutteridge Gardens may have already noticed some of the recent improvements, including the pressure cleaning and repainting of the park benches, giving them a fresh new look. The team has also pressure cleaned the entrance footpaths at the Wonders of Wynyard Exhibition & Visitor Information Centre, along with the public toilet facilities surrounding Gutteridge Gardens, with the stage next on the maintenance schedule.
These works are part of Council’s ongoing commitment to maintaining attractive, functional and welcoming public spaces for the community to enjoy throughout the year.
