Community welcomes upgraded Sisters Beach Recreation Park

Community welcomes upgraded Sisters Beach Recreation Park

It’s already getting plenty of use, but this Saturday’s official opening of the Sisters Beach Recreation Park will see the skate park get a true work-out.

Along with the official opening formalities, the Know Your Odds Scoot, Skate and BMX Competition Series will also take place on the day, seeing riders vying for top prizes.

The new Sisters Beach Recreation Park has ramps for bikes, scooters and skateboards, as well as an enclosed basketball half court.

Made possible with the help of a $70,000 from the Tasmanian Community Fund (TCF), the project and grant application were initiated by the Sisters Beach Community Association (SBCA) and progressed via a working group with the Waratah-Wynyard Council.

The facility will add to an area that is already popular for both locals and visitors.

Members of the SBCA Ben Saward and Jono Vincent welcomed the new recreation space.

“It’s been a few years in the making,” Ben Saward said. “It’s great to see the day has finally arrived.”

Waratah-Wynyard Council’s Deputy Mayor Mary Duniam will officially open the recreation park on Saturday.

“We’re thrilled that the Sisters Beach community is already making great use of the Recreation Park,” Deputy Mayor Mary Duniam said.

“We welcomed the SBCA’s proactive involvement in this project and happily committed to fund the balance of the project. This has been a successful partnership between Council and the community – taking a hardstand that didn’t meet the community’s needs and developing a recreation space with plenty of community engagement and in-kind support,” Deputy Mayor Duniam added.
