Boat Harbour Beach Surf Life Saving Club begins it's move
The Boat Harbour Beach Master Plan has reached a major milestone, with the Boat Harbour Beach Surf Life Saving Club, as well as Seekers Bar and Cafe, begin their move into their new home.
As part of the Boat Harbour Beach Master Plan, Waratah-Wynyard Council has delivered a purpose-built community facility that supports surf lifesaving while creating a welcoming place for the wider community to connect, participate and enjoy.
Waratah-Wynyard Mayor Mary Duniam said the move represents the beginning of an exciting new partnership between Council and the Surf Club.
“Facilities like this are about much more than buildings. They’re about creating places where people can come together, stay active, volunteer, build friendships and strengthen community connections,” Mayor Duniam said.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Boat Harbour Beach Surf Life Saving Club, whose volunteers have been at the heart of this project from the very beginning. Their passion, commitment and collaboration have helped bring this vision to life.”
Alongside the community spaces, the facility also includes a café, which the Surf Club will lease to local favourite Seekers Bar and Café, owned and operated by Sarah Myers. The café features a modern layout, a commercial kitchen and a rooftop garden overlooking Boat Harbour Beach.
What's next?
Work will continue on the surrounding public open space, including:
- new picnic and BBQ facilities
- a nature inspired playground
- modern public toilets
- a recreation area featuring a half basketball court
- extensive native landscaping
Once the Surf Club and café have fully relocated, Council will demolish the existing building to make way for these new community spaces.
Facility Management:
Under a Memorandum of Understanding, Council will retain ownership of the building during the first five years while the Surf Club manages and operates the facility on Council’s behalf.
This staged approach gives the Club time to establish its operations, grow its volunteer capacity and progressively introduce broader community access.
While the Surf Club’s immediate focus is settling into its new home, community bookings will be introduced gradually as operational arrangements are developed.
