Families will be able to hop on over to Somerset’s new all abilities playground this Easter, with the much-anticipated playground open for general public use on Thursday 6th April, with a family day including food vans and activities set for Easter Saturday between 11am and 2pm.
The project is a partnership between local charitable organisation The Fairy Godmothers and the Waratah-Wynyard Council.
Spokesperson for the Fairy Godmothers, Katrina Tabart, says seeing the all-abilities playground finally open is a dream come true for the organisation.
‘Some people might see this as just a park, but to people living with a disability or illness that has excluded them from playing alongside their peers in the past, this space will be lifechanging.’
‘Our vision was to create a space where children of all abilities can play alongside each other and where parents, siblings and carers can also enjoy the time together.’
Mayor of Waratah-Wynyard Council, Dr Mary Duniam, says whilst there have been some delays and challenges for the project, she is confident the spectacular new destination playground will attract people from far and wide and says its delivery reflects Council’s commitment to creating inclusive, fun recreation spaces for the whole community.
“Council is immensely proud to present this all-abilities playground to our community. Credit must also go to the Fairy Godmothers, whose longstanding vision for an inclusive playground has helped drive and shape this project in partnership with Council.’
“We look forward to seeing the smiling faces of families enjoying time together this Easter holidays at the all new, all-inclusive, Anzac Park Somerset.’
