Waratah-Wynyard Council’s 2026–27 rates notices are now being issued to ratepayers across the municipality.

Understanding Your 2026–27 Rates Notice
At a Glance
- Rate notices have now been issued by email and post.
- General rates have increased by 4.9 per cent, below the March Hobart Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 5.1 per cent.
- The Waste Management Charge has increased from $190 to $215, equivalent to around 48 cents per week.
- Free entry to the Wynyard and Waratah Waste Transfer Stations will continue for residents.
- Some properties may receive a stormwater service charge for the first time following a Council stormwater network audit.
- The four-instalment payment option will continue, with instalments due on 31 August, 31 October, 31 January and 31 March.

Why Have I Received a Stormwater Service Charge?
Some property owners may notice a stormwater service charge on their rates notice for the first time this year.
Following an audit of Council’s stormwater network, it was identified that some properties discharge stormwater into Council’s system but had not previously been charged for the service. As these properties benefit from the Council-managed network, the applicable service charge now applies.
Why Has My Property Valuation Changed?
Property valuations are managed by the Office of the Valuer General, which applies adjustment factors every two years to reflect changes in the property market between full revaluations.
For the 2026–27 rating year, most properties have not experienced a change to their adjusted valuation. The only exceptions are vacant land and primary production properties, which have received a five per cent adjustment.
These valuation adjustments do not increase the total amount of rates Council collects. They are used to ensure rates are distributed fairly across properties based on their relative values.
Payment Options
Council will not offer an early payment discount for the 2026–27 rating year. This decision was made during the 2026–27 Budget process.
To help make payments more manageable, ratepayers can continue to pay their rates in four instalments due on:
- 31 August
- 31 October
- 31 January
- 31 March
