MEDIA RELEASE
Thursday November 14th, 2024
Waratah-Wynyard Council is excited to announce its celebration of the International Day of People with Disability on 3 December 2024. This inspiring global day is all about breaking down barriers and embracing inclusivity, and Council is inviting everyone to join in the celebration.
Mayor Mary Duniam said that this day is a powerful reminder that inclusion is everyone’s responsibility.
“By sharing stories and raising awareness about the experiences of people with disabilities, we’re taking meaningful steps toward building a community that values and supports all its members. We welcome people of all abilities, along with their families and carers, to join us for our morning tea.”
Since its inception in 1992, the International Day of People with Disability has sparked thousands of community events across Australia, each one fostering a more inclusive and supportive society.
Vonda Ferguson, Team Leader for the Multicap Tasmania Wynyard Community Access Hub, shared her enthusiasm for the upcoming event, saying, “This is more than just a morning tea—it’s a chance to build connections, celebrate achievements, and champion inclusion. We’re looking forward to seeing familiar faces and new friends gather to show their support for people with disabilities in our community.”
Mayor Duniam added, “We’re proud to represent Waratah-Wynyard in this important initiative and can’t wait to see our community come together to make a positive impact.”
Council’s morning tea will be held at 10am on Tuesday December 3rd at Council Chambers. For more information about the morning tea or to RSVP, please contact Waratah-Wynyard Council on (03) 6443 8333 or email bfolden@warwyn.tas.gov.au. RSVP by 22nd November 2024.
