CCTV Cameras
The Waratah-Wynyard Council has operated a Closed Circuit Television System (CCTV) since 2020. The system was installed to enhance public safety and security, and is operated with the support of Tasmania Police. Cameras operate in key public spaces both in the Wynyard and Somerset CBD as well several surrounding parks and reserves. Council operates and manages its CCTV system in accordance with relevant Commonwealth and State legislation including the Privacy Act 1988 (Commonwealth), the Personal Information Protection Act 2004, Listening Devices Act 1991 and the Security and Investigations Act 2002.
Waratah-Wynyard Council CCTV is not monitored in real-time and footage is only provided to Tasmania Police Service to aid in the investigation of Police related matters. If you feel footage may be available in relation to a criminal matter, please contact Wynyard Police.
