Wynyard’s world-class Francis Ransley Veteran Car Collection has been sold to the Elphinstone Group.
The collection, which has been the cornerstone attraction at the multi-award winning Wonders of Wynyard Exhibition and Visitor Information Centre since its opening in 2005, represents a life’s passion for former owner, veteran car enthusiast and restorer, Francis Ransley OAM and his wife Elayne.

Council has been exploring sites to construct a public toilet in Yolla. Two places were identified as preferable sites for a public toilet given their proximity to the town and local business.
Waratah-Wynyard Council will consider a budget that reflects a strong and sustainable financial position and delivers a number of major projects for the community at their meeting on Monday 20 June.
Council will vote to endorse a recommended general rate increase of 3.81%, which is below the Council Cost Index of 4.06% and follows increases of just 1.9% and 0% over the last two years.
Waratah-Wynyard Council has appointed General Manager Shane Crawford for a further five year term.
In announcing the reappointment, Mayor Robby Walsh said “It gives me a great deal of pleasure to confirm the reappointment of our General Manager for a further five year term. Shane’s performance, management skills and personal strengths are there for us to see every day and he is well respected within the Local Government sector. By any measure we are doing well in delivering what we promised the community and are in a sound financial position. The General Manager is very valuable to us, to the staff and to the community and we look forward to working with him to drive further improvements and deliver outcomes in future years”
The road verge weed spraying program will soon commence in Waratah-Wynyard. Council will be targeting woody weeds like blackberries, gorse, montbretia and thistles for the next three months, weather permitting.
Spanish heath is familiar to many Tasmanians as a highly invasive weed. In the north-west coast it is becoming increasingly prevalent and spreading at an alarming speed. Spanish Heath is often confused with native species due to the remarkable similarities it has with our own native heath species.
Thanks to the State Government Weed Action Fund, we have a unique chance to stop this invasive weed before it gets out of control and impossible to eradicate.
Council advises that the barbeque area at the Cam River Reserve will be unavailable for use from Monday 28 March due to new concrete and shelter upgrades.
Applications for the Waratah-Wynyard Council’s Energy Saver Grants Program will now be
extended until the end of the financial year. The Program offers non-for-profit community
organisations in the Waratah-Wynyard municipality the opportunity to apply for a 50% co-contribution toward energy saving initiatives to help combat climate change.
