Wonders of Wynyard Exhibition and Information Centre

Wonders of Wynyard 8 December 2005

The new Wonders of Wynyard Exhibition Centre was officially opened by the Hon Paul Lennon, Premier of Tasmania and Tasmanian Liberal Senator Stephen Parry, regpresenting Federal Regional Services Minister Warren Truss on Tuesday 13th December 2005.  The centre features local resident Francis Ransley's collection of veteran motor cars, including a 1903 Model A Ford, one of only two in existence and the equal oldest Ford in the world.

The $1.4 million centre was jointly funded by the State and Federal Governments and the Waratah-Wynyard Council.

It also houses the Wynyard Visitor Information Centre and Wonders of Wynyard Gallery.  The gallery will feature changing exhibitions of local "wonders", including artworks and displays of regional and state significance.

A visitor who walks into the Wynyard Visitor Centre can be sure of a friendly greeting. Welcoming visitors to Wynyard is the pleasant task of the Volunteers of the Wynyard Visitor Centre. Some forty residents share their enthusiasm for the beauty of the north west with the many visitors who use the service each year. An extensive knowledge of the region is essential, so most of the Volunteers are retirees who have lived in the district all their lives. Questions on road and weather conditions, driving times, tides, flora and fauna, good fishing spots and history are just some of the topics they deal with. To keep abreast of the latest trends the Volunteers regularly hire a bus to take them on trips to familiarise themselves with the newest attractions, accommodation and restaurants.

The Centre carries brochures for the immediate area and also for attractions further afield that may require advance booking. The Centre also offers for sale, a great range of local art and craft as well as a good assortment of souvenirs.  A booking service for accommodation and tours statewide, National Park passes for sale has been established.

Each October our hardworking band put in many extra hours on the numerous tasks associated with the Bloomin' Tulips! Festival , when the town plays host to the several thousand people who come to see the glorious tulips and to participate in festivities.
