Wynyard Waterfront Walkway to be Closed
Waratah-Wynyard Mayor Robby Walsh said the waterfront walkway between the Wynyard Wharf and Camp Creek will be closed from Monday 1 February 2016 until further notice.
The closure is necessary due to safety concerns and has been made in full consultation between The Waterfront Wynyard (as leaseholder), Crown Land Services and the Council.
“Due to ongoing damage to the sea wall and undermining of the concrete pathway, a decision has been made to close public access to the walkway until these safety issues can be resolved,” Mayor Walsh said.
“While barriers will be put in place to prevent pedestrian access to the walkway, pedestrians are reminded that there is a footpath on Goldie Street, which provides access between the wharf and Camp Creek and beyond.
“We would remind pedestrians that the roadway through the motel is a private road for motel guest access only and encourage you to use the alternate path via Goldie Street footpath”
“Council continues to work on finalising a masterplan for the area, which will not only address these issues, but also improve public access in the vicinity.”
The Wynyard Waterfront Environs Masterplan will be released in coming weeks for further community consultation and will be subject to future funding considerations as a priority.
