Council approves first round of Community Activation Grants

More than $30,000 has been allocated to clubs and other organisations in Waratah-Wynyard following Monday night’s Council meeting.

Council approved grants for 16 organisations under Round One of Council’s Community Activation Grants program for 2018/19.

Council called for applications during April and May 2018, with applicants required to address assessment criteria.

Applications were then categorised under six headings, as follows: Events, Recreation and Wellbeing, Arts and Culture, Youth and Education, Community Small Grants and Community Support.

Waratah-Wynyard Mayor Robby Walsh said Council was pleased to support the projects.

“There are some really great initiatives in there that will make a difference to our community and it’s great that Council has been able to make a contribution,” he said.

“I look forward to seeing these projects take shape.” 

Round Two of the Community Activation Grants will open on 1 November and closes on 31 December this year.

The grants approved under round one are as follows:

Recreation & Wellbeing

• Wynyard Yacht Club - Hire of portable disabled toilet for one year ($1000)
• Inglis Pony Club - Upgrade of Dressage Arenas ($1,878)
• Wynyard/Somerset Tennis Club – Defibrillator ($2000)

Community Small Grants

• Somerset Fire Brigade Social Club – Purchase marquee ($2000)
• Penguin Rehab & Release – Penguin rehabilitation facility ($2000)
• Meal on Wheels Association of Tas – Office set up ($1000)
• Somerset Scout Group (Hellyer District) - Purchase Group trailer ($2000)
• Central Wynyard Neighbourhood Watch -  Newsletter production ($300)
• Wynyard RSL Sub-Branch - Purchase of a Marquee ($1200)
• North West Bird Club - Publication of Newsletter office equipment ($384)
• Wynyard Garden Club - Prize money for Garden Competition ($500)

Arts & Culture

• Wynyard Municipal Concert Band -  Purchase of Conductors Podium ($2000)
• Artscape Wynyard - Cradle Coast Emerging Artists Competition ($800)
• The Wynyard Chorale - Purchasing SATB Sheet Music for Library ($675)

One- Off Events – Sponsorship

• Wynyard Fire Brigade Social Club - Sponsorship North West Family Fun Day ($1000)
